Haven’t gotten much doodling done lately. I’ve got a backlog of unscanned sketches and I’ll post those as soon as possible. Here’s a little offering I did a few weeks ago. Mmm, stale sketches… tasty!

So now about Justice…
I, like many others, am being strung along reading Justice. When I first caught wind of it most of my friends weren’t interested because of the whole Alex Ross not doing the pencils thing. I didn’t mind so much. I’ve loved tons of stuff Alex Ross has been involved in, but didn’t actually do art or didn’t do a certain part of the art aspect. This of course taking for granted that writing is an art. One of my favorite reads was Earth X. That’s weird because I read more DC than Marvel, but I LOVED the story and J.P. Leon’s art was absolutely stunning.
I’ve found Justice to be somewhat frustrating story-wise. Soooooo much dialouge that can be soooooo boring. Sometimes I find myself turning a page seeing all the dialouge onit and thinking “Aw, crap!”. I didn’t mind it too much in the first few issues. They were rocking my Justice League world. But as time goes on there’s less rocking and way too much talking. Yeah… I said it. Much of it “square box” talking… narration. The latest issue was pretty good. Lots of action (which has been somewhat scarce) that evens out the dialouge a bit.
Ultimately, if you aren’t a JL fan and you’re looking to get started, don’t start here. So much of it is about the internal battles of each of the heroes and you have to know something about them to really understand it. I would recommend some of Ross’ serial sized Justice League stuff. Enjoy,

Here are a couple doodles. I’ve got some more that I’ll be posting soon.

I’ve been reading the Scholastic editions of Jeff Smith’s BONE. Man, are they a sight to behold. Of course the story is great and Jeff Smith’s art is so wonderful, but Steve Hamaker’s colors a truly beautiful. It’s hard to believe that anything could be added to Smith’s great artwork, but Hamaker is up to the task. The colors really open up the already sprawling fantasy world to an epic scale. I would definitely recommend the Scholastic editions of BONE to anyone. If you’ve never read the book before, what a great way to be introduced. If you’ve been a fan for years here’s a chance to add color to Smith’s fantasy realm.
