Blades by DeMercer!

26 09 2007

So I made this tonight with the help of my Pop! The blade is Balkan Birch and the jank-ass handle is walnut. The craftsmanship is a little lacking in the handle, but the blade is solid and looks as good as any I’ve bought.

This is just a prototype. I just wanted to see if it could be done. The next one will be more polished and made of different wood. I’m looking at making some out of: igum (kind of like cypress), mahogany, walnut and limba. I’ll be making some single-ply blades as well.

Rad!

Here’s a fat and out-of-work Sabertooth. Done at Tully’s while staring at Gabe’s enormous arms.

Enjoy!

Friday Abstract Art

14 09 2007

DeMercerabstract

This was done as an exercise for the artists at work. I’ve never done any abstract art before… well… I’ve never meant to do it. Of course, some stuff may have turned out looking like abstract art.

Anyways, here it is.

Still waiting to hear back about being tutored. Sitting tight with my fingers crossed ;)

Enjoy,
Dennis

I’m going crazy!!! And Chu has a blog!!!

12 09 2007

I’m going crazy waiting to find out if I’ve been chosen to tutor with [Spline] Dr. Stephen Gregory!!! It’s taking every ounce of energy in me NOT to send an email every five seconds. I went back in the great Spine Doctor’s archives and read his posts on the Illusion of Life. So inspired was I that I’ve started reading it myself. It’s a feat, but so far it’s absolutely fascinating. Up until now I’ve used it for reference. I know… I’m dumb. If you’re interested in reading it, you can grab it off of Amazon.

So, my good friend Chu has a website and blog up! Yay! He’s a very talented artist and super-duper guy. Go check it out and leave a comment to inspire him to post some more of his wonderful art. I thank you.

I leave you with a link to the most savage man who has ever lived!

Enjoy!

Second Pass

10 09 2007

So, I’m hoping to get to tutor with Stephen Gregory from Pixar. The idea of it is weird… I don’t know if I’ll actually be able to form words or sentences if I get to meet him. It’s weird enough emailing. Check out his animation! Pretty amazing! Anyways, when I find out one way or the other, I’ll let yas know.

Here’s the second pass at the Arrested Development Animation. Mostly smoothing out the second half of the the animation and tightening up the facial animation.

Enjoy,
D

New Arrested Development Animation

7 09 2007

So I’m an Arrested Development SUPER FREAK!!! I can only go a couple months without watching it so I start all over again.

This little sound clip is funny and I thought I’d animate to it.

Here are my thumbnails:

And here’s the blocking pass:

And here’s my first pass:

So far I’ve got about five hours in it…

If you haven’t seen Arrested Development… what are you doing here? GO WATCH IT!!!

Enjoy!
